Zwei Zitate von Jorge Luis Borges
Der Trend zum dicken Buch geht so offensichtlich wie ermüdend weiter - die Zeiten von Shortstories und Novellen scheinen endgültig dahin. Da ich mich in letzter Zeit durch einige dieser wohlbeleibten Schriften durchgekämpft habe - von Tellkamps Turm über Schätzings Limit bis zu Stephen Kings Arena, kommt mir das folgende Zitat vom großartigen (und viele wundersame Kurzgeschichten verfasst habenden) Jorge Luis Borges gerade recht:
“Für mich ist auch die Literatur eine Form der Freude. Wenn wir etwas mit Mühe lesen, so ist der Autor gescheitert.”
Genau, kann ich da nur sagen - und mit dieser Brille die oben genannten Autoren als zumindest in diesem Punkt gescheitert bezeichnen. Ehrlich gesagt verstehe ich einfach nicht, warum weder Schriftsteller noch Lektor nicht mehr Mühe auf ihre Texte verwenden: Zu viel unwichtige, selbstverliebte und schlichtweg langweilige Seiten verpatzen mir das Lesevergnügen. Natürlich kann man einwenden, dass auch Thomas Manns Zauberberg seine Längen hat - aber da konnte ich, so ich mich nicht zum überblättern entschied, wenigstens die Sprache genießen.
Deshalb mein Aufruf, mein Wunsch, meine innständige Bitte: Denkt bei jeder Zeile, die ihr schreibt, an den blinden Hüter der magischen Sprache, den mit 50 Jahren vollständig erblindeten argentinischen Meister Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986)!
Und das zweite in der Überschrift versprochene Zitat von ihm? Ein berühmter Satz, der uns Bibliophilen warm und mysthisch aus der Seele spricht:
“Ich habe mir den Himmel immer wie eine große Bibliothek vorgestellt.”
